There is high occurrence of water borne diseases in Nepal. ECCA feels that both quantity and quality of water should be given equal importance. The program aims to provide safe drinking water and improve sanitation condition in the school and the surrounding community. Both the software (awareness creation, training, capacity building) as well as hardware (installation of technologies) are carried out simultaneously.

As per the local need, various approaches are taken:

• Rainwater harvesting, ground water recharging
• Water treatment techniques
• biosand filter
• water filter fitted with nano-silver treated ceramic candle (which can remove bacteria, turbidity and protozoa)
• use of Chlorine solution (sodium hypochlorite), which can be locally produced from concentrated common salt solution, through an electrolysis process by the use of WATA device developed by Swiss scientists
