Conservation & Better Livelihood

Conservation Education and Integrated Community Development

Capacity development in the local level is essential for developing conservation strategies and for proper resource management in order to assure maximum benefits for present and future generations. ECCA feels that children can, and will, play a major role for the successful information dissemination to the community at large. Children catalyze the community to join the mainstream environmental movement and make a positive contribution towards sound resource management and conservation.

Initially, the community is mobilized and their vision for development created alongside raising general awareness on environmental conservation, specific application of clean technology, improving school environment to improve education quality, and other issues specific to their locality.

Major Initiatives

  • Formation of students environment club in the schools
  • Various school based and community based activities (such as installation of paper recycling unit, waste management (by separating bio-degradable and non-degradable waste), construction of drinking water distribution system, improved cooking stove, construction of toilets, etc.)
  • Trainings for the youths, students and other community members on the local environment issues and their role in securing a better ecological future
  • Trained school children training other school children on environment issues
